There are two institutions in the state of Colorado that have been accredited by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) for degrees that have an emphasis on digital media and communication. These are two of the most popular universities across the state, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado. The latter offers an undergraduate and graduate program within the field of journalism, while CSU offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Communication.

At this time, a newer program that explores journalism entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado has not been reviewed by the ACEJMC. Schools that have been designated by the ACEJMC have demonstrated commitment to a specific mission statement, at least half of the credit hours are geared toward education in professional skills, and graduation data is made available to the public on an annual basis.
